Why Carers Choose Us
We know that fostering is an incredibly rewarding role – but we also understand it comes with challenges. That’s why we’re committed to giving our foster carers the very best support, every step of the way.
At Rees Parent and Child Fostering, we see our carers as an essential part of our team. We work hard to build positive relationships between foster carers, their supervising social workers and the wider team. Our goal is to create a culture where you feel comfortable speaking openly and honestly about any challenges you face, so we can work together to find solutions and support you.
Supporting You
When you foster with us, you’ll never feel like you’re on your own. We’re here 24/7, 365 days a year, to make sure you always have someone to turn to.
Every carer is assigned a dedicated Supervising Social Worker (SSW) who provides regular supervision, guidance, and advice. You’ll have at least one supervision visit each month, plus extra visits whenever you need them.
Fostering doesn’t stop at 5 pm, so neither do we. Our out-of-hours service is always available, supported by experienced social workers, with senior management on hand if needed. Whenever you call, you’ll reach someone who understands fostering and can give you practical advice and reassurance.
You’ll also receive a comprehensive Foster Carer Handbook, packed with useful information, key contacts, and guidance. Plus, you’ll have access to an extensive training programme, starting during your assessment and continuing throughout your fostering journey.
We believe in the power of connection. That’s why we organise regular support groups and forums – online and in person – where carers can share experiences, learn from each other, and build strong peer networks. We also match new carers with experienced mentors for extra support.
Fostering is a family journey, so we make sure your whole household feels included. We arrange fun events for carers and their families, including your own children, to recognise and celebrate their important role. Where needed, we can offer confidential consultations with an independent therapist – for those times when you just need some personal space to talk things through.
With Rees Parent and Child Fostering, you’ll always have a dedicated, caring team behind you – ready to help you provide the best care possible.

A start-up payment – to help newly approved carers with initial equipment purchases.
Up to three weeks’ paid holiday (pro-rata) each year – because we know how important it is to take a break and recharge.
A discretionary bridging payment between placements – for full-time carers, to provide financial stability when waiting for your next placement.
Training
At Rees Parent and Child Fostering, we believe that well-trained foster carers provide the best possible outcomes for families. That’s why our training programme is designed to help you build specialist and therapeutic knowledge as well as practical skills to support vulnerable parents and their children.
Our training will help you:
- Develop strong skills in observation, recording and assessing parenting capacity
- Gain a deeper understanding of child development, attachment and safeguarding
- Learn how to support parents in keeping children safe and meeting their needs
- Build confidence in identifying both strengths and gaps in a parent’s knowledge
As a foster carer, you’ll learn how to model good parenting and reinforce positive, child-focused behaviours through praise. You’ll also gain the confidence to appropriately challenge poor parental behaviours – always with the goal of maintaining a safe, nurturing environment for both parent and child.
We also place a strong emphasis on accurate and professional recording. You’ll be trained to make concise, factual and non-judgmental records of your observations and interactions, which play a vital role in assessments and decision-making.
